Each floor is unique and may contain more or less characteristics than represented. Once felled in near-entirety throughout New England and beyond, old growth white pine is now a particularly rare and coveted lumber — especially in the traditional wider-plank format.
Virgin white pine has been aggressively harvested since the colonial era, when the British Royal Navy infamously requisitioned particularly fine specimens for use as masts. Today, white pine is farmed, but is sawn for lumber as quickly as possible, giving it an entirely different look and feel than product milled from salvaged old-growth timber.
